Is the review course for you?
In general review courses are helpful to residents to:
- Understand the scope and spectrum of the surgical problems the residents need to know about.
- Organize the existing information so that it can be easily recalled for daily use by the residents.
- Know the information (The truth and only the truth) in different surgical area.
- Concise information on the areas not frequently encountered in residency (e.g. Head & Neck, Genetics, Risk Reducing Prophylactic Surgery).
- Organize your thought process.
- Preparatory course for Board examination.
REVIEW COURSES SHOULD NEVER be taken a few days or weeks before the examination. For exam preparation ALWAYS take
review courses several months before the exam. Also to get the most out of the review course, you should do a
comparison of the review course.
There are several review courses available. They are all fairly expensive, some more than others and all of them in general cover the areas important for the board examination. Some of the courses are too big (too many residents) to get any individual
attention or have time to answer all your questions. Following is the comparison of different review courses available ranked best (A), good (B), and fair (C).
You should get the most or all of lecture material well ahead of the scheduled course so that you can review it before you come to the review course.
